August in Los Angeles is shaping up to be a busy month, kicking off with a significant cultural event as Gustavo Dudamel prepares for his official last concert with the LA Phil. This star-studded benefit is organized to support relief efforts following recent earthquakes in his home country of Venezuela. The performance will feature an array of artists including Beck, Natalia Lafourcade, and GIVĒON, alongside the LA Phil and members of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. Music lovers across Southern California have more to look forward to this August 2026. The inaugural L.A. Jazz Festival will take over Dockweiler Beach with a two-day oceanfront event. Saturday's lineup includes Janelle Monáe, Charlie Wilson, and Parliament Funkadelic, while Sunday features John Legend, Raphael Saadiq, and Original Koffee. General admission to the festival is available for $50. Beyond the beach, a new free summer concert series will host 108 concerts across 27 parks throughout L.A. County on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, with programming from NextFest L.A. highlighting local artists. For those with a love for physical music, VinylCon! returns to the California Market Center in Downtown L.A. for a two-day celebration, bringing together over 100 dealers with thousands of records.
The month also offers a wide range of film and art experiences. After a 15-year absence, Christian Marclay’s acclaimed 24-hour video, *The Clock*, will return to display on the first floor of the BCAM building. Special 24-hour screenings are scheduled for August 22, starting at 7 pm. Meanwhile, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will present a VistaVision film series from August 20 to 31 in its David Geffen Theater, showcasing rare prints and remasters of classics like *White Christmas* and *North by Northwest*.
