The L.A. Rams will be without a key offensive lineman for their next two games after left tackle Alaric Jackson received a two-game suspension from the NFL. The suspension stems from an incident caught on camera following Monday night’s overtime loss, where Jackson was seen throwing a punch at Buffalo Bills edge rusher Bradley Chubb, according to multiple reports. This decision leaves a notable gap on the Rams’ offensive line as they prepare for crucial matchups.

Stepping into the starting left tackle role will be David Quessenberry, who the Rams have listed as Jackson’s backup. Quessenberry will be tasked with protecting the blindside against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. Jackson is slated to be eligible for reinstatement for Week 8, when the Rams are set to face the L.A. Chargers.

This isn't the first time Jackson's conduct has drawn scrutiny, though past incidents did not result in an NFL suspension. The league did not sideline Jackson before the season after he was arrested and accused in a domestic violence incident. Reports indicate this was reportedly the third such accusation during his career. While his "personal life has been controversial to say the least," as described in reports, his on-field performance has often been a highlight.

An undrafted free agent out of Iowa in 2021, Jackson has been a "pleasant surprise" for the Rams since joining the team. He has been a consistent presence on the offensive line, with PFF ranking him as the 12th-best tackle this season. His strong play on the field led to him earning a three-year contract extension with the team. However, his "temper has been caught on camera" now, directly impacting his availability.

David Quessenberry, 36, brings experience to the position, though he has not started a game since 2023 with the Vikings. The Rams re-signed him after last season and have kept him on the roster, suggesting confidence in him as a viable option. Another potential, albeit less likely, player to watch is rookie third-round pick Keagen Trost. Trost had his 21-day window to be activated opened last week, meaning he could return at any time. However, it "would be surprising if he was activated and then starting at left tackle for the Rams," according to reports, acknowledging that "stranger things have happened."
