Thousands of Disney fans recently gathered at the Anaheim Convention Center for D23, the company’s fan expo, where the future of its Southern California theme parks was a central topic. While many announcements updated previously teased projects, Disneyland Park is set for one significant new development: a complete reimagining of Tomorrowland.
Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum revealed plans to overhaul the 1955 land, which he noted has become a "hodgepodge of space-themed rides." The goal is to renew the park's founding promise by focusing on "optimism" and "wondrous ideas," with new attractions, more open spaces, and new places for guests to dream about the future. While no timeline was specified, Mazloum linked the project to Disneyland’s upcoming 75th and 100th anniversaries.
Over at Disney California Adventure, several previously announced projects gained more detail. The long-anticipated Avatar experience, though only briefly mentioned by Senior Vice President Ali Rubinstein as "coming in the future," had a visual presence at the Imagineering pavilion. Concept imagery and models showcased a bioluminescent boat excursion with its ride vehicle and a mountainous environment. This addition will require the closure of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! to make space.
Further expanding Disney California Adventure, the park will see two new Marvel-themed attractions open in 2028, effectively doubling the size of Avengers Campus. "Avengers Infinity Defense" will enlist riders on a mission across Wakanda, Asgard, and New York City to pursue King Thanos. Imagineer Brent Strong confirmed that massive props, including a Black Panther statue and Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, will be blended with media scenes. The ride will feature appearances from MCU stars such as Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.
The second Marvel addition, "Stark Flight Lab," will feature Captain America (Anthony Mackie), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) as flight instructors. This twisty, simulator-like attraction, which appears to be outdoors, will use robotic arms to lift and fling riders.
Finally, Disneyland Resort is bringing back familiar nighttime entertainment in February 2027. Disneyland Park will host a "refreshed version" of "Remember… Dreams Come True," the 50th-anniversary fireworks show, with new projections on Main Street, Rivers of America, and "it’s a small world" facade, in addition to Sleeping Beauty Castle. The "Magic Happens" daytime parade is also set to return that summer. Meanwhile, Disney California Adventure will present an "updated take" on its original "World of Color" fountain show.
