The Santa Monica Pier will transform into an alpine-inspired holiday market this season, as the Swiss Winter Village arrives on the west side starting November 18. Running through January 3, the event promises to bring a taste of European Christmas charm to a distinctly Southern California setting, complete with ocean views rather than snow-capped mountains.
Created by Swiss Xmas Village in collaboration with Fever, the experience is set to offer a mix of traditional Swiss holiday activities and waterfront scenery. Visitors can expect an array of festive food options, artisan shopping, and an ice rink, all designed to provide a seasonal escape.
Food is highlighted as a major part of the festivities. The village will feature traditional alpine fare and Swiss specialties. Among these are cozy raclette chalets, where guests can warm up with melted cheese and live entertainment. The vendor lineup for food and handcrafted goods, sourced from European makers and local artisans, is scheduled to rotate weekly, ensuring new discoveries with each visit. This setup allows visitors to hunt for holiday gifts or simply enjoy the variety of available cheeses and other seasonal items.
Beyond the culinary offerings and shopping opportunities, the Swiss Winter Village aims to provide plenty of seasonal activities suitable for families and Angelenos looking for festive cheer. Guests will have the chance to go ice skating, meet Santa Claus, or participate in hands-on crafting workshops. The scheduled activities also include curated cheese tastings, seasonal cocktail hours, and Hanukkah festivities.
The market represents the latest effort to bring a piece of old-world holiday atmosphere to Southern California, a region where December temperatures often differ from a traditional Christmas fantasy. The organizers, Swiss Xmas Village, have prior experience in creating European holiday destinations, including Zurich’s Illuminarium and Wienachtsdorf, as well as Geneva’s Noël au Quai. This background in developing festive European markets is now being brought to the West Coast, allowing visitors to enjoy a European-style Christmas market right at the beach.
Tickets for the Swiss Winter Village at Santa Monica Pier will become available with a presale starting October 20, followed by general ticket sales beginning October 21. The event concludes on January 3, providing an extended period for locals to experience the unique holiday village.
