The Los Angeles Rams are grappling with a growing injury list, most notably placing wide receiver Davante Adams on injured reserve. Adams ruptured his hamstring during the Week 6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, an injury that, according to Sean McVay, will keep him out for six to ten weeks. This extended absence raises the possibility that Adams may not return to the field at all this season.
Adams' injury occurred as a non-contact incident late in Sunday's game, just moments before the Rams scored a go-ahead touchdown. While initial information about his condition was scarce after the game, McVay's comments on Monday confirmed an extended recovery period. In his six games this season, Adams was a crucial part of the Rams' offense, recording 30 catches for 480 yards and four touchdowns. His contributions were particularly notable when fellow receiver Puka Nacua was sidelined with a core injury, during which Adams accumulated over 300 yards and two touchdowns in just two games.
With Adams out, the Rams' passing offense, which has primarily relied on Adams, Nacua, and tight end Tyler Higbee, will need to find new avenues. This situation could lead to an increased role for Tutu Atwell, and open opportunities for players like Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, and sixth-round rookie C.J. Daniels. The team's other tight ends have not been significant contributors in the passing game, and Terrance Ferguson, another second-year pro, is also on injured reserve.
The Rams' challenges aren't limited to the offensive side of the ball. The team also announced that defensive tackle Poona Ford is out for the year with a torn triceps, and Kobie Turner will miss four to six weeks due to a groin injury. These defensive setbacks add to an already complicated situation, as Myles Garrett is also currently on injured reserve.
Earlier in the season, the Rams signed Aaron Donald to boost their defensive line. However, with the recent losses of Ford and Turner, the team must now rely on players like Tyler Davis and Ty Hamilton to step up. While Donald was brought in to bolster the line, observations from the season suggest he has not consistently performed at the elite level he once did. The current defensive line situation presents an opportunity for him to bring back some of that magic when the team needs it most.
The injuries also bring contract considerations to the forefront. Davante Adams, who signed a two-year, $44 million contract in 2025, is scheduled to become a free agent in 2027. Similarly, Kobie Turner, also a free agent in 2027, will find his case for an extension potentially complicated by this recent groin injury.
The Rams now face the difficult task of reconfiguring both their offensive and defensive schemes to account for these significant absences as they navigate the remainder of the season.
