The criminal case against Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, the 36-year-old Florida woman accused of firing multiple bullets at pop singer Rihanna’s Beverly Hills mansion, is now set to move forward. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi ruled Tuesday that Ortiz is mentally competent, ending a delay of more than four months for a competency evaluation. Case documents containing Ortiz’s psychiatric evaluations remain confidential and sealed.
Authorities allege Ortiz endangered "numerous lives at risk" on March 8 when she drove a white Tesla to Rihanna’s neighborhood. She is accused of firing approximately 20 rounds from an assault-style rifle. At the time of the incident, Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, and their three young children were at home.
Police discovered bullet holes and impacts in several locations around the property, according to a police document reviewed by City News Service. Damage was noted on the exterior of the residence’s gate, a fence, the front windshield of an Airstream trailer, a patio area, and an exterior wall of a nursery room. Reporting by the Associated Press indicated that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside the trailer, while their children were inside the nursery room during the shooting.
Ortiz faces a total of 14 felony counts. These charges include one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, vehicle, or other target, as shown in court records.
While Ortiz had no known direct connection to Rihanna, she frequently posted about celebrities on social media. In February, she shared a meme that made allegations about Rihanna’s health and tagged Rihanna in a Facebook post, telling her to "say something to me directly instead of sneaking around." The Times has previously reported on Ortiz’s prior arrests in her home state, which include a 2021 arrest on suspicion of careless driving and a 2023 arrest on suspicion of domestic violence and battery. She was also involved in a bankruptcy case in 2013.
A subsequent hearing in the case is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, according to court records. City News Service contributed to this report.
