Fans of 90s sitcoms might want to mark their calendars: a significant portion of the cast from the NBC comedy "Wings" is set to reunite in Hollywood this Saturday. Tony Shalhoub, Amy Yasbeck, Steven Weber, and Tim Daly will gather for a panel discussion as part of the annual Evening from the Heart LA gala, which aims to honor the life and legacy of actor John Ritter.
The event, hosted by the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health, will take place at the Sunset Room Hollywood, located at 1439 N. Ivar Ave. The evening, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, will include a dinner, an auction, and a program alongside the "Wings" cast reunion panel.
Beyond the familiar faces from the fictional Tom Nevers Field, the gala is expected to draw a range of other public figures. According to organizers, Kaley Cuoco, Joyce DeWitt, Spencer Garrett, Amy Davidson, Martin Spanjers, Holly Robinson Peete, and Maureen McCormick are slated to make appearances. John Ritter's sons, actors Tyler and Jason Ritter, along with actress Melanie Lynskey, are also scheduled to attend.
The core mission of the Evening from the Heart LA gala is to raise both money and awareness for the John Ritter Foundation's ongoing efforts. Specifically, the foundation works to improve the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of thoracic aortic dissection. This focus is directly tied to Ritter's passing on September 11, 2003. He was 54 years old when he became ill while working on the ABC sitcom "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" and was subsequently taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where he died of an aortic dissection.
Amy Yasbeck, Ritter's widow, established the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health following his death, turning personal tragedy into a sustained effort for public health.
Ritter, whose career spanned more than three decades, was perhaps best known for his Emmy-winning role as Jack Tripper on the classic ABC sitcom "Three's Company" in 1984. His extensive body of work also included memorable performances in television series like "Hooperman" and "8 Simple Rules," as well as films such as "Sling Blade" and "Problem Child."
This year's gala holds particular significance, falling just one day before the start of Aortic Dissection Awareness Week, which runs from Sunday through September 19. The event also takes place five days before what would have been John Ritter’s 78th birthday, serving as a timely tribute to his enduring impact both on screen and through the foundation created in his memory.
