The Critics Choice Association announced Monday that John Leguizamo, Judy Reyes, and Oscar Nuñez are slated to be recognized at its sixth annual Celebración of Cinema & Television. The event, scheduled for October 2 in Beverly Hills, is dedicated to honoring the work and performances of members from the Latino and Hispanic entertainment community.
John Leguizamo will receive the Career Achievement Award, acknowledging his more than four decades of work in film, television, comedy, and theater. His extensive credits include roles in “Carlito’s Way,” “Romeo + Juliet,” the “Ice Age” franchise, and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.”
Judy Reyes is set to receive the Trailblazer Award for her contributions across film, television, and theater. Reyes currently appears in “High Potential” and “Scrubs,” and is also known for her roles in “Devious Maids,” “Claws,” and “Birth/Rebirth.”
Oscar Nuñez will be honored with the Vanguard Award for his body of work, notably for his portrayal of Oscar Martinez in Peacock’s “The Paper,” a character he first originated on “The Office.”
Other honorees announced by the association for the Beverly Hills event include Rodrigo Teixeira, who will receive the Producer Award for “Paper Tiger,” and Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, who are recognized with the Director Award for “La Bola Negra.” James Ortiz earns the Innovator Award for “Project Hail Mary.” Aimee Carrero is set to receive the Supporting Actress Award — Series for her work in “Your Friends & Neighbors.” Beth de Araújo will be presented with the Breakthrough Director Award for “Josephine.” Inde Navarrette receives the Breakthrough Actress Award — Film for “Obsession,” and Laysla De Oliveira is honored with the Breakthrough Actress Award — Series for “Lioness.”
Critics Choice Association member and co-programmer Clayton Davis noted that recognizing "this remarkable class of Latino and Hispanic artists is nothing short of a gift," especially given recent challenges. Davis will host the celebration alongside fellow association member Amanda Salas. The event will be produced by Javier Infante, Madelyn Hammond, and Ella Carlson of Hammond Infante Productions.
The Critics Choice Association, founded in 1995, represents over 500 media critics and entertainment journalists, and is known for presenting the annual Critics Choice Awards.
