An escape artist known as Houdini II plans to perform a high-rise escape above the Magic Castle in Hollywood this Friday, coinciding with the eve of the 100th anniversary of Harry Houdini’s death. The daring stunt is scheduled to take place at 8 a.m., with organizers detailing a performance designed to challenge the limits of traditional escape artistry.

Houdini II will be suspended approximately nine stories above the ground for his attempt. According to organizers, he intends to perform this feat without the aid of an airbag or any other protective landing system below him. This detail underscores the inherent risks involved in the public display, which will be visible in the heart of Hollywood.

Beyond the escape itself, the performance will include an additional element aimed at broader messaging. Houdini II plans to drop $1,000 from the sky during the event. Organizers state this gesture is intended to promote social unity, peace, and global harmony, adding a symbolic dimension to the high-stakes physical challenge.

Organizers have also highlighted the historical significance of the upcoming event. They described the performance as the first live escape by a Black escape artist in front of the Magic Castle, marking a notable moment for the storied Hollywood institution and the world of magic. The Magic Castle, an exclusive club for magicians and enthusiasts, is a landmark in the area.

This Hollywood event follows a series of notable stunts by Houdini II in other locations. Organizers recall past performances, including an instance where he jumped from Miami’s MacArthur Bridge into Biscayne Bay while bound with ropes and chains. Another reported feat involved escaping from a submerged, coffin-like wooden box before reappearing behind the audience, showcasing a blend of escape and illusion.

The performer draws inspiration from, and shares a stage name with, the legendary Harry Houdini, who was born Erik Weisz in Budapest. Harry Houdini became widely famous for his masterful escapes from handcuffs and various locked containers. His career captivated audiences worldwide before his death in Detroit on October 31, 1926, at the age of 52, from peritonitis.

In addition to his live performances, Houdini II has been active in promoting his documentary, “Houdini II: A Beautiful Day to Die.” Organizers indicate he recently completed a 10-month tour for the film, which included screenings in international cities like Berlin and London, as well as several locations across the United States. The tour concluded at Brooklyn’s Bushwick Film Festival. Beyond the stage and screen, Houdini II also incorporates magic into his work as a keynote and motivational speaker, extending his message and craft beyond traditional performance venues.

The Friday morning event promises a dramatic display of skill and nerve above one of Hollywood’s most iconic landmarks, offering local residents a unique spectacle and a moment to reflect on the legacy of escape artistry.
