Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians in Agoura Hills will need to adjust their routes again this weekend as Caltrans has announced an additional Saturday closure for Agoura Road. The new closure adds a weekend work day to the ongoing weekday disruptions near the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing construction site.
The full closure of Agoura Road, specifically between Rondell Street and Hydepark Drive, is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday. Caltrans stated the closure is necessary to accommodate construction activities related to the significant regional project.
This weekend closure comes on top of existing weekday closures for the same stretch of Agoura Road. Those closures began on Wednesday and are slated to continue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday through Friday, now through November 30.
While construction activities are also scheduled for Sunday, Caltrans confirmed that no closures of Agoura Road or the Ventura (101) Freeway ramps at Liberty Canyon Road are planned for that day.
During the scheduled work hours, motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians will not be permitted through the Agoura Road closure area. For drivers, a detour will guide them onto the 101 Freeway between Chesebro Road and Liberty Canyon Road, with clear signage posted along the alternate route.
Caltrans also noted that the northbound and southbound 101 on- and off-ramps at Liberty Canyon Road may experience periodic closures for construction. However, the agency clarified that these freeway ramps and Agoura Road will not be closed concurrently, aiming to prevent simultaneous major disruptions.
To assist pedestrians and bicyclists navigating the construction zone, a free shuttle service will be provided. The shuttle will run every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled closure days. Eastbound shuttle passengers can be picked up at Dorothy Drive and Chesebro Road, with a drop-off point at Liberty Canyon Road and Agoura Road. Conversely, westbound passengers can board at Liberty Canyon Road and Agoura Road and will be dropped off at Dorothy Drive and Chesebro Road, according to Caltrans.
Furthermore, any existing bus stops located within the closure area will be temporarily relocated to accommodate the work.
The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is a crucial infrastructure project designed to span the 101 Freeway. Its primary purpose is to reconnect fragmented wildlife habitat, allowing animals such as mountain lions to safely move between different sections of the Santa Monica Mountains. This extensive construction effort, while causing temporary inconvenience, aims to support the long-term ecological health of the region.
